Demand for caravans and motorhomes in Germany sets another new record

On the eve of the 2021 Caravan Salon, the German Caravanning Industry announces that sales of caravan and motorhomes in Germany continue to skyrocket.

the CIVD, says German holidaymakers’ enthusiasm for caravanning is continuing in 2021 with 74,957 motorhomes and caravans registered in the first seven months of the year – a new record. This corresponds to an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, which had also set a new record.

A total of 12,118 recreational vehicles were newly registered in July 2021. This actually represented a fall of new registrations by 24.8% compared to July 2020. This was due to extremely high July figures of the previous year when there had been a strong catch-up effect (+85.6 %) after the first lockdown. Comparing these figures with the new registrations in July 2019, there is a clear growth in both vehicle segments.

Like many others, the caravanning industry is currently struggling with delivery problems, as Daniel Onggowinarso, Managing Director of the Caravaning Industry Association (CIVD), explains: “Many components and raw materials are delayed due to the pandemic. Supply chains are currently hardly available, so we continue to try to meet the very high demand, but sometimes this is challenging. “

The demand for motorhomes is still particularly high. From January to July 57,400 motorhomes were newly registered – more than ever before in this period.
